KILMACURRAGH BOTANIC GARDENS

Extensive collection of rare trees and
shrubs. Developed by the Acton family with help from the
National Botanic Gardens, from about 1860. Notable specimens
of Podocarpus salignus, Cryptomeria japonica "Elegans",
Laureliopsis phillipiana. The Rhododendron Avenue is magical
in May. Early 18th c. landscape features include yew and oak
avenues. Being restored and replanted by the National
Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin. Free guided walks every
day at 12 noon and 3pm from April to Sept. All welcome.
Open: Every day 9.00 - 18.00 (16.30 in
winter). Closed 25 December

south of Rathnew or 9.5km from Rathdrum.
